Management terabyte Posted June 18, 2008 Management Posted June 18, 2008 Well, some minutes ago I've opened IB ACP to remove the "Firefox Download Day" code from all skin wrappers and in the space of "Latest IPS Blogs" i've seen as first link IP.Shoutbox! First thought was: WTF?!? Here a copy of the blog entry:In our efforts to improve the services offered to you through IPS Resources, we will soon be releasing another community-driven project, IP.Shoutbox. Much like IP.Tracker, this will be an IPS-sponsored project written by you, the community. We have approached two people who we feel will do a great job on IP.Shoutbox, these two are currently working very hard to produce a beta of the modification. The developers we have chosen are vadim88, and Shawn Dean. These two will keep you up-to-date regarding the status of this project via the IP.Shoutbox forum. IP.Shoutbox is based on Deans modification 'D22-Shoutbox', and he will be working very closely with us on this component. IP.Shoutbox has been written with IPB3 in mind, for example, the javascript uses the prototype library to allow the move to IPB3 be all that much easier, the code will be commented throughout so people looking to get involved will know what function is doing what, please remember, even though we have two developers who will start this project off, this is a community-driven project, if and when you find bugs, and you know how to fix them, please provide the fix as it makes it all that much easier for the developers! If you have code contributions, please feel free to submit them in the IP.Shoutbox forum, we welcome your input! As with all community projects, IP.Shoutbox will be offered for free via IPS Resources for current license holders. We will be posting more updates about this project and the updates coming to IPS Resources shortly. This is for sure a nice idea, but i hope the Shoutbox will be also supported by those 2 developers because as many of you may know Dean is known for "not" supporting his mods :( Link to original Blog entry Board Rules - Available Products - Need a Custom Work? < Don't PM me for support, post in the forum or submit a ticket from the client area instead! >
Gorbo Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Very interesting...Im glad to see that Dean is working on it because simply put, his mods ROCK! but you are right, there is no support at all from him :( However I am also curious as to whether it will be different than his normal shoutbox and what other cool features he might add. emoney Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Since we're talking about shoutboxes and Dean, do you guys prefer Dean's Shoutbox over Fuse's ShoutOut? I've always used Fuse's but I've noticed most ipb sites with shout use the one made by Dean. But yeah, IP.Shoutbox could be sweet.... Anything4Free.comfree stuff
Management terabyte Posted June 19, 2008 Author Management Posted June 19, 2008 Never liked ShoutOut, also now is ioncube encoded so you need to have ioncube loaders to run it. Personally i don't like encoding of free mods. Board Rules - Available Products - Need a Custom Work? < Don't PM me for support, post in the forum or submit a ticket from the client area instead! >
Gorbo Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Encoded mods are crap and I will never use any mod by any modder who decided to encode their mods...Secondly, Shoutout isn't nearly as good as deans. The latest one by InfernoTechnologies is awesome but I don't like the refresh rate or the look of it. but I do love how you can have private shouts...that there is awesome! DawPi Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Never liked ShoutOut, also now is ioncube encoded so you need to have ioncube loaders to run it.Again ?! Some time ago, Fuse decoded this mod :P IPS, Inc. Official Partner ♦ IPS Community Developer ♦ Custom Modding
emoney Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Yeah, I hated the fact it was ioncube encoded at first, but after getting my host to install it it was all good. His latest version has private shout ability, but I'm guessing its not as easy as Inferno's private feature. When you say Shoutout isn't nearly as good as deans, can you expand on this or link me to a previous thread somewhere that compares the coding/features. I had heard that one of them was a huge resource hog, but I thought it was Dean's. Anything4Free.comfree stuff

Some time ago, Fuse decoded this mod :P Honestly i don't know.. last time I've seen his mod on IZE was ioncube encoded but then he moved on Invision Modding where i am banned so haven't followed anymore the upgrade process. I had heard that one of them was a huge resource hog, but I thought it was Dean's.Yes, Dean shoutbox uses more resources than FuSe but if you set it up like there (only on board index) with 60 seconds of refresh time and 5 minutes of inactivity the load is smaller. Infact i don't have any problem there with the shoutbox (also when more than 30-35 users are online sometimes) and i'm on a shared server. EDIT: Also i like a lot D22-Shoutbox layout, ShoutOut is ugly in my opinion :P Board Rules - Available Products - Need a Custom Work? < Don't PM me for support, post in the forum or submit a ticket from the client area instead! >
mInIfLiGhT Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 (edited) Shoutbox blows with big boards/websites like mine...everyone is just gonna spam in it lol From my expierences, shoutbox works on smaller websites better. Gorbo Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) Also i like a lot D22-Shoutbox layout, ShoutOut is ugly in my opinion My exact reason for liking deans better!! Also my site is sorta large but I don't have a load problem and only those who have donated can access the shoutbox..Its a nice way to do it to not only get donations but to limit its use :) EDIT: hehe just noticed Im an "Elite Member" WOOT! AlexH Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Thought I might make some input here, D22-Shoutbox is a base :-) We WILL be changing it a lot before the initial release, and its coming on smoothly at the moment. But yeah, we chose it over ShoutOut because the base code is viewable for one, and Dean was willing for us to do this. http://www.ahmodding.co.uk/advertising/advert3.pngDownload Socialiser2 now!
